Work Station Design

In this introductory level Industrial Engineering project, our team applied core methodologies such as time studies, motion studies, line balancing, manual work design, and lean and value analysis to optimize a workstation for assembling the cab component of a bulldozer. The primary aim was to evaluate and improve the current workstation's suitability, focusing on productivity, worker safety, and well-being.

Our design emphasized pre-setup organization, adjustability, worker comfort with a reclining chair, desk shelving for better accessibility, and efficient workflows. Through a detailed analysis of the current system, we developed an improved layout that enhances the assembly process, reduces unnecessary movements, and ensures a safer, more ergonomic workspace.

The final optimized workstation layout is shown in the diagram above, and our findings and conclusions can be explored further in the video presentation to the right. By considering both productivity and the health & safety needs of the worker, our workstation design provides a more efficient and supportive environment for assembly tasks.

An element I was personally very proud of was the inclusion of a design I modeled using SolidWorks. This model accurately replicates the workstation setup, incorporating precise dimensions to visualize the optimized layout. The images below showcase the design, highlighting the attention to detail in the configuration of the workstation.
